TO EVALUATE LOCALIZATION METHODS BY MOBILE RADIO SYSTEMS IN THZ FREQUENCY RANGE

The area of activity of our business area “Wireless and Transponder Systems” reaches from conception of communication systems up to their realization in form of demonstrators and prototypes. They can for example be applied in wireless detection of measured values in industrial measurement technology or medical technology.

For the biggest DFG project (Deutsche Förderungsgemeinschaft) in the department electronical engineering you are going to research within the framework of your promotion on the area of mobile localization by radio technology in maximum and THz frequency range. The goal is to determine the position of random objects in a high-precision way. This could for example simplify locating people in burning buildings or it could secure using robots in the area of industrial production in cooperation with people.

Content-related focus of your promotion is going to be especially electromagnetically modeling and simulation of dielectric resonators in THz frequency range, as well as modeling of array structures on the basis of these resonators and the metrological characterization and verification.

   

 

What you offer:

·          Very good completed diploma (TU/Uni) or Master’s program of Electrical Engineering or a comparable specialization,

            e.g. physics with very good performance

·          Sound knowledge about the theory of high frequency technology with first experiences in the area HF-simulation

·          Knowledge about analog high frequency circuit technology  

·          Experience in the area signal processing are desirable

·          Good English and German language skills, written and spoken

·          Pronounced sense of initiative as well as a high degree of team spirit

·          Result-oriented, systematic and independent functioning

FOR THE AREA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE

The topic “connected HealthCare“ in the Fraunhofer inHaus-Zentrum deals with the sub-areas health and care. “Connected“ stands for the focus on integrated systems as well as on interdisciplinary cooperation of applied research, industry, and healthcare consisting of doctors, hospitals and associations.  

The main focus of our research activities will be the topic dementia, starting with (early) detection up to different assistance systems in private, clinical and nursing home setting. Further topics like chronic diseases and stress are planned.

As group leader you take care of building and leading a group of 3 to 6 scientific employees and deal with the following exciting challenges:

·         Active participation and realization of a strategy for potential analysis of integrated solutions as well as assistance systems

·         Preparation of applications for funding projects and offers to industrial customers

·         Leading of projects on national and international level

·         Planning and leading of innovation workshops with customers, universities and other research institutes

 

What you can offer:

·         Successfully completed technical diploma (TU/Uni) or Master’s program (e.g. Electrical Engineering or Informatics),

          ideally with completed doctorate  

·         Openness and understanding of novel technologies in the area human-computer interaction, Virtual/Augmented Reality, Data Analytics or

          Internet-of-Things

·         Knowledge about healthcare, ideally about the topic dementia, chronical diseases or stress

·         Business fluent English skills spoken and written

·         Independent and goal-oriented functioning

DISSERTATION TOPIC: NOVEL METHODS FOR DEMENTIA DETECTION IN EARLY DISEASE STAGE

Within the frame of a promotion you deal with the early detection of dementia and prediction via direct and indirect analysis through sensor-based systems, to initiate appropriate measures to delay – disease progression, for relief of accompanying symptoms as well as the general increase of quality of life of affected persons and their relatives – on time.
Furthermore, you develop innovative assistance systems that do in particular support the patient in  early disease stage, the nursing relatives and the professional nursing staff – not only in their own home, but also in care areas as well as in a clinical setting.

 

What you offer:

·         Very good completed diploma (TU/Uni) or Master’s program of Electrical Engineering or Informatics

·         Knowledge about healthcare, ideally about the topic dementia

·         Knowledge about novel technologies in the area human-computer interaction, Virtual/Augmented Reality,

          Data Analytics or Internet-of-Things

·         Expandable basic knowledge about sensor-based systems, data analysis and preparation as well as artificial intelligence

·         Enjoying interdisciplinary research (Electrical Engineering, Informatics, Medicine)

What you can expect:

Within 3 years we offer you the possibility of a successful promotion and therefore provide you all facilities and labors of our Institute. The doctorate will be awarded by the university Duisburg-Essen. You are not assigned to any teaching responsibilities. It is a full-time job (39h/week) with half payment.
